This section is intended for therapists,
psychiatrists, clergy, and others who might need to refer residents to Fessenden
House. The process of referral is, roughly, this:
- Write to us and give us the individual's
name. We have a waiting list most of the time with quite a number of
names on it. Often, by the time we get down to an individual's name
several have dropped from the list due to the waiting time involved, so be
ready to have patience. We give preference to those who are HIV
positive, but aside from that, it is simply a matter of going down the list.
- While on the waiting list we ask that either
the prospect himself or you as therapist call us once a month to keep the
name active on the waiting list.
- At some point in the interview process we do
require a Psychosocial be done. You may use your own form, or we will
provide one.
- It is a good idea to give a copy of the House
Policies to your prospective Resident prior to the interview, so that we
do not waste our time interviewing a candidate who is not willing to abide
by that document. If your prospect cannot read, or cannot read
English, we will either read the document for him or have it translated by a
native speaker for him to hear.
- How long will it take? Usually
three-to-six months. Maybe less; maybe longer; depending on the length
of the waiting list and the health of the men in residence at the moment.
Once the interview is
complete we will contact you within a very few days to give you our impression
of your candidate's suitableness for Fessenden House. |
